Description
Western Lodge is a gate lodge to Flete, built around 1830-1840, likely at the same time as the 1835 remodelling of Flete, and it incorporates some 16th-century granite details that probably originated from Flete. The building is constructed of slate rubble with granite dressings and features a scantle slate roof with gabled ends. It is a single storey structure with three bays.
The central gabled porch has 16th-century moulded granite coping and a four-centred arch doorway with a ledged door, along with two plain shields above. On the right side, there is a reused two-light stone mullion window with carved stops on the hood mould. The left side has a two-light granite window that was built forward in the late 19th century. The south-west gable end includes a reused three-light granite window, also with a hood mould that has carved stops. The building has rendered chimney stacks with moulded caps and a 20th-century flat roof wing at the rear, on the south-east side.
