Description

Bull and Bear Lodge is a gate lodge that served Membland Hall, which has since been demolished, located on the former Revelstoke estate. The building features a datestone from 1889 that includes Lord Revelstoke's monogram. It is likely designed by George Davey's office in a picturesque vernacular style. The structure is built of slate rubble with granite dressings and has a scantle slate roof with gabled, half-hipped, and semi-conical ends. It is L-shaped and has two storeys. The right side has a gable with a slate pentice hood over the first-floor window and a wrought-iron weathervane above. The left wing has a semi-circular end with a verandah canopy supported by brackets that extends into the angle to create a porch. The roof features gabled dormers with a semi-conical shape. The windows are made of granite mullions with leaded panes.
