Description
The kennels to Lupton House, located in Kingswear, were built around 1850 and are possibly designed by George Wightwick. They are constructed from local grey marble (limestone) ashlar and feature a slate roof with stone-coped gable ends. The building is one storey high, with a central gable that has moulded coping and a tall octagonal pinnacle supported by a corbel shaped like a hound's head. The central carriageway has a two-centre arch, and on either side, there are three-light stone mullion windows with leaded panes and square-headed lancets. At the rear, there are single-storey ranges that form a yard, featuring lancets, a trefoil opening, and shallow buttresses. Lupton House itself was altered by George Wightwick around 1840, and it is likely that the kennels were designed by him during that period.
