Description
Nethway Cottage is a cottage that was formerly a tollhouse, built in the early 19th century. It has a roughcast exterior with a slate-hung, splayed three-sided end facing the road and a slate hipped roof. The building is two storeys high and features a splayed front with three windows. The windows are two-light casements with glazing bars, although the central window on the first floor is blind. There is a central plain doorway with a plank door, and two chimney stacks are located on the side wall. The Turnpike Act for the road from Newton Abbot to Kingswear was established in 1765, but this tollhouse appears to have been constructed in the early 19th century.
