Description
Alston Farmhouse dates to the early 19th century. It is constructed of stone rubble, with red-brick window arches, and has a hipped slated roof and chimneys on each end wall. The left side of the farmhouse has been rendered, while the right side is faced with red brick. The building likely has a double-depth plan. It is double-fronted and has two storeys and three windows on the front elevation. The centre doorway has a six-panel design, the lower two panels being flush and now glazed, and is sheltered by a 20th-century wood porch with a slated pent-roof. The windows are 3-light wood casements, each light containing 10 panes, and a deep flat eaves-cornice is present. Matching windows are also found on the right side wall. A stone rubble porch with a slated pent-roof is also present on this side. The front garden includes paths of worn pebbles. A boundary wall, constructed of roughly-coursed squared stone rubble with flat stone coping, sweeps upwards to form piers with chamfered caps at each end. The central section rises to form two matching gate piers. An iron gate, featuring diagonal braces and what appears to be a cogwheel in the centre, completes the arrangement.
