Description

STOKE FLEMING SX84NE Bridge about 30 metres 6/137 South East of Riversbridge Farmhouse

GV II

Farm track bridge over stream known as Blackpool Lake. Probably C18 or early C19, widened probably in late C19. Local slate rubble. A small 2- span bridge with a pronounced camber and without parapets. The original bridge which exists at the centre was probably a narrow pack-horse or pedes- trian bridge with corbelled lintel arches. It has been widened on the west side and probably also on the east side with simple roughly dressed stone basket-shaped arches, although the lintel structure survives on the east end of the north span so the bridge might have been widened on the west side only. The splay of the abutments at either end is apparently a C20 alteration.
