Description
This is a farm track bridge located about 30 metres southeast of Riversbridge Farmhouse in Stoke Fleming. It likely dates from the 18th century or early 19th century and was widened, probably in the late 19th century. The bridge is constructed of local slate rubble and features two spans with a noticeable arch and no parapets. The original structure at the center was likely a narrow pack-horse or pedestrian bridge with corbelled lintel arches. It has been widened on the west side, and possibly also on the east side, with simple, roughly dressed stone basket-shaped arches. However, the lintel structure remains at the east end of the north span, suggesting that the widening may have only occurred on the west side. The splayed abutments at either end appear to be a 20th-century alteration.
