Description
A pair of cottages located in the village of Thurlestone, dating from the mid- to later 17th century, with extensions added in the 18th century. The cottages are constructed of plastered rubble and cob walls, and have a thatched roof which is hipped at the left end and gabled to the right. An axial brick stack serves as a central chimney. The original plan likely provided two rooms for each cottage, with the central stack dividing them; the left-hand section is recessed and appears to be an 18th-century addition.
The two-storey front has an asymmetrical arrangement of four windows. A 19th-century casement window is present on each floor to the left, while a late 18th or early 19th-century 20-pane horizontal sliding sash window sits to the right of centre on the first floor. A 20th-century 2-light casement window is located to the right of this, with a 3-light casement directly beneath it. The ground floor window to the left is set within a 17th-century ovolo-moulded wooden frame. To its left, within the recessed section, is a 20th-century panelled and glazed door. A lean-to porch is present, with a doorway now blocked to the left of centre. A 19th-century four-panel door is positioned to the right of centre, alongside a plank door. The interior was inaccessible during the survey, but may retain original features.
