Description

Primrose Cottage and an adjoining cottage are likely of 17th-century origin, with extensions and alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. The walls are rendered rubble and the roof is thatched, with three brick stacks: one axial and two at the gable ends, set on projecting rendered rubble bases. The original layout is unclear due to limited access, but it may have been a three-room-and-through-passage house with the lower end to the right, and a hall stack backing onto the passage. Alternatively, it may have been a two-room plan with an additional room built onto the right-hand end, which is now a separate cottage. There are 20th-century one-story additions at either end. The front has an asymmetrical arrangement of three windows with small panes in 20th-century two-light casements. Leanto thatched roof porches with stable-type doors are situated towards each end. The interior was inaccessible during the survey, but it is believed to contain old fireplaces, although the ceiling beams have been replaced.
