Description

The Nest is a house dating from the early to mid-19th century, with alterations made in the 20th century. It is constructed from rendered stone rubble, with a gable-ended roof now covered in asbestos tiles. The building has rendered gable ends and axial stacks.

The original plan included two front rooms, with the left room heated by a large gable-end stack and smaller service rooms at the rear. It was formerly two cottages; the original doorway on the right side has been replaced with a small sash window. The front of the house has two windows on the south side, with 12-pane sashes from the 19th century on the ground floor, and smaller windows above. A doorway is located to the left of the centre, featuring a 20th-century door and a canopy. A rear extension, comprising an additional storey with a flat roof, has been added.

The interior joinery has been removed, but retains exposed softwood joists and fireplaces with reused timber lintels. The first floor contains axial ceiling beams. The left-hand, or west, chamber has a fireplace with a simple reeded chimneypiece and a cupboard to one side with panelled doors.
