Description
Amberwood is a house dating from the late 17th century, with additions from the 18th century. It features rendered rubble walls that may include some cob and has a hipped thatch roof. There are two brick axial stacks, one of which is on a rubble base. The original layout was a two-room plan, with the right-hand room heated by a lateral stack. In the 18th century, a one-room wing was added to the front of this room, which was later extended. An 18th-century outbuilding was added at the end of the right-hand room and was converted in the 20th century.
The house is two storeys high and has an asymmetrical L-shaped front. The main range has 20th-century two-light casements on the first floor and an early 19th-century 12-pane sash window below on the left. To the right, there is a 20th-century lean-to porch with a plank door. The wing at the right-hand end features 20th-century two-light casements, with a 19th-century window on the first floor to the left. The former outbuilding is set back from the right-hand end. Inside, the house has been much altered in the 20th century but retains some original pegged A-frame trusses.
