Description

Jarvis Farm is a house, originally a farmhouse, dating from the early to mid 17th century, with later 20th-century modernisation and extensions. The building is constructed of slatestone rubble with a half-hipped thatched roof, featuring two stone rubble stacks—one axial and another at the right-hand end. The original plan consisted of two rooms, with the larger room on the left containing a fireplace at its left-hand end and a behind-it smoking chamber. A two-storey porch, incorporating a newel staircase, is situated in front of this room. A late 20th-century addition extends from the right-hand end. The front façade is asymmetrical, displaying a three-window arrangement with 20th-century one and two-light casement windows. The porch, located to the right of centre, is gabled and features a 20th-century stable-type door and pigeon holes on the first floor. A small wooden squint window is set into the porch’s right-hand wall. A rectangular stair projection extends to the left of the porch, corbelled outwards and featuring three beeboles underneath. A single-storey addition, set back from the right-hand end, was also added in the 20th century. The interior was inaccessible at the time of survey, but likely retains original features such as a fireplace, ceiling beams, stairs and possibly roof timbers.
