Description
The Dartmouth Arms Public House is a mid to late 19th-century public house located on Lower Street. It features plastered walls, likely made of stone rubble, and has side-wall stacks with painted and plastered brick chimney shafts topped with old pots. The roof is covered with asbestos slate.
The building stands three storeys tall. The front doorway, located to the right, has a recessed 20th-century door. On the second floor, there is a single window, which is a horned sash without glazing bars. The left side of the building displays an irregular arrangement of windows, primarily 19th-century horned 4-pane sashes, although some larger windows on the broad, curving corner to Lower Street have been replaced in the 20th century. The roof has plain eaves and is hipped towards Lower Street, with a square projection and plastered soffit over the rounded corner.
Inside, the southern party wall is shared with Agincourt House at No. 27 Lower Street and dates from the 14th to 17th century. The Dartmouth Arms is part of a particularly picturesque group of buildings on Bayards Cove and is included for its group value.
