Description

The buildings at 3 and 5 Ferry Slip, Dartmouth, are a pair of houses dating to the mid-to-late 19th century, although they may incorporate an earlier fabric. They are built on a projecting slip into the river. The front of the houses is plastered and appears as ashlar, with stone rubble at ground-floor level and timber-framing above. They have end stacks with plastered brick chimney shafts and pots, and a slate roof. Each house has a mirror plan, with a single room width and a double-depth design. The two-window front has a shared square-headed doorway with a four-panel door and overlight. The windows are 12-pane sash windows with horns. Plain eaves are continuous with the adjacent buildings. The interiors have not been inspected but are likely to be of interest. The buildings form part of a group of listed riverside buildings on Ferry Slip, along Sunderland Terrace and Lower Street, creating an important approach to Bayards Cove, and are included in the listing due to their group value.
