Description
Bayards Cove is a small house located in Dartmouth, dating from the early to mid 17th century, with some modernizations from the 19th and 20th centuries. The building features plastered walls, which are likely made of stone rubble, although some parts may be timber-framed. It has a right end stack with a brick chimney shaft and old pots, topped with a tiled roof.
The house has a small one-room plan and stands three storeys tall with a two-window range on the ground floor. The roughly central front doorway has a part-glazed door that is sheltered by a 19th-century timber pedimented hood supported by shaped console brackets. All the windows are 20th-century horned sashes without glazing bars, with the third-floor window located in a large tile-hung half dormer that has a hipped roof. The roof has plain eaves and is gable-ended.
At the rear, the right corner curves and features a first-floor doorway that leads onto rising Bayards Hill, which has a 17th-century solid doorframe with a moulded surround. The interior has not been inspected but is likely to be of interest.
