Description
The front boundary walls of the Church of St Barnabas were built as part of the church's improvement in 1884 by architect George H Birch. The walls are made of snecked limestone and feature ashlar coping and piers. They consist of a low coped wall with terminal piers at each end and central gate piers that are square in section, topped with low gables on all four sides. The gate piers are equipped with cast-iron lamp standards and later (Italian) low iron gates, as the original gates, which were much larger and proportionate to the stone pillars, are believed to have been lost during the 1914-18 war effort. These walls are included for their group value.
