Description
No. 4 Sunderland Terrace, located at Tippers Quay in Dartmouth, is a building that has been converted from a warehouse into two houses. It likely dates from the 18th century but has earlier origins. The building was converted in the early 20th century and has been modernised since then. It features stone rubble construction at the rear, which is exposed, while the front is plastered. The roof is slate with C20 chimney shafts.
The exterior of the building is two storeys high with attics and has an irregular four-window front that includes C20 horned four-pane sashes and French windows, along with a C20 balcony. There are two gabled dormers at both the front and back. The rear side has a rustic three-bay arcade leading to the house doorways, and the roof is half-hipped to the east.
Inside, much of the interior reflects the C20 conversion and modernisation, but some large chamfered crossbeams from the original warehouse have been retained. The roof was not inspected. The building is included for its group value with other nearby structures.
