Description
This limekiln, located immediately north-north-east of Lower Kilngate, dates from the late 18th century or early 19th century. It is constructed from local slate and likely limestone rubble, featuring a circular design set into the bank at the rear. The front has a pointed arch opening, known as the swallow, which is corbelled inside, and there is a kiln stoking hole at the back. A low parapet surrounds the top, which is level with the higher ground at the back to allow for top loading. The limekiln is positioned near the shore of the River Dart estuary.
