Description

Simpson Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early 19th century. The building features painted stone rubble on the right side, while the front and left sides are hung with slate. It has a slate roof with gabled ends, and the rendered gable end stacks include a broad left-hand stack that projects slightly and is also slate hung. The farmhouse has a double depth rectangular plan, consisting of two main front rooms with a central entrance hall that contains the stairs at the back. Behind the front rooms are two smaller service rooms, likely a kitchen on the left and a dairy on the right. There is a doorway at a lower level on the right side that leads to the collars. The kitchen has been relocated to a 20th-century single-storey outshut at the back.

The exterior is two storeys high with a symmetrical three-window front, where the windows are slightly shifted to the right. The first floor features early 19th-century sashes, with 16-pane sashes on the sides and a narrow central sash with 12 panes. The two ground floor windows have late 19th or early 20th-century four-pane sashes with horns, all set in original openings. The central doorway has a reeded flush panel door and a 20th-century glazed porch. At the back, there are 20th-century casements in original openings, and the centre first floor has a larger stair window with a 20th-century frame. A flush panel door below is now enclosed within the 20th-century outshut.

The interior has not been inspected, but it is reported that the original panelled front window shutters are intact. The interior is said to be unaltered and likely includes panelled doors and the original staircase.
