Description
The Well House, located immediately northwest of Start Point Lighthouse, dates from around 1836 and is likely designed by James Walker, the engineer responsible for the lighthouse. This small, single-storey building has a rectangular plan and features a rendered and painted stone exterior with a gable-ended roof covered in large slate slabs.
The east end has a wide doorway with double plank doors, while the corners, doorway, and window openings are stop-chamfered. On the north side, there is a small 19th-century 16-pane sash window with a hood mould and a large sill. The west end of the building is blind. The catchment area above to the west, which was once slate-covered, supplied water to the well. The interior has not been inspected.
