Description

Hatchland Bridge Cottages is a house that has been divided into two cottages, dating from around the 17th century, with an 18th-century wing. The building is constructed of slate rubble and features an asbestos slate half-hipped roof with heightened eaves. The northeast wing on the right has a hipped slate roof. The layout consists of a two-room plan with a stack and a cross-wing at the higher gable end. The wing likely represents a rebuilding of the hall and higher end of what was originally a three-room layout with an across or through passage. A semi-circular stair turret is located at the rear angle with the cross-wing. There is a rendered ridge stack at the junction with the wing and another stack at the side of the wing. The building is two storeys high and has a three-window range, with the projecting 18th-century cross-wing at the right (northeast) end. The windows are 20th-century casements, and there are two plank doors with slated hoods.

Inside, there are two chamfered ceiling beams with ogee stops, and the fireplace has been blocked. The staircase is a newel type with timber treads. On the first floor, there are two timber door frames featuring ovolo moulds and step stops to the jambs. A door in the cross-wing is made from two large planks and includes covermoulds and wrought iron hinges. The roof space has not been inspected but is likely to contain an 18th-century roof structure.
