Description

Ladies Bridge is a railway bridge that spans the drive to Lyon Abbey, formerly known as Marley House. It was built in the late 19th century, likely after the conversion from broad gauge was completed in 1893. This section of the South Devon Railway, which runs from Totnes to Laira near Plymouth, was originally opened in 1848 as broad gauge. The bridge is constructed of granite ashlar and features an elliptical skew arch that is chamfered on one side. It has low parapets with a cornice that breaks forward over the end pilasters in the abutments. Inside, the arch is lined with white engineering brick.
