Description

An 18th-century water mill with an attached 17th-century millhouse. The mill is constructed of slate rubble with a slurried slate half-hipped roof. It has three storeys and a loft. Several 18th and 19th-century casement windows feature leaded panes. A doorway is located on the right side, above which is a loft door with a slated canopy. A single-storey, open-fronted wing extends to the right (north-east), with a gable end facing the road. A cast iron undershot water wheel is situated on the north-west side. Some original machinery remains within the mill. The 17th-century miller’s cottage adjoins the mill at a right angle to the south-east, and is also built of slate rubble with a corrugated asbestos roof and gabled ends. It has two storeys with casement windows that have leaded panes. A plank door is topped by a gabled hood. A Sun Fire Insurance plaque is affixed to the front wall. The interior of the cottage contains a stopped-chamfer ceiling beam with run-out stops, newel stairs in the front wall, and two chamfered wooden doorframes with cambered arches.
