Description
Yealmpton Manor, formerly known as The Old Vicarage, is a house that served as a vicarage and was built in the early 19th century. The two-storey building features an L-shaped plan and is constructed of stucco with a low-pitched hipped roof covered in bitumenised slate.
On the garden elevation, which faces south, the house is three bays wide, with the central bay being bowed and topped with a semi-conical roof. The original sash windows have been replaced with uPVC double glazing. The entrance elevation, facing west, has an open porch supported by Tuscan columns that leads to a double doorway.
Inside, the manor retains much of its original joinery, including window shutters and some six-panelled doors. While the fire surrounds are mostly intact, the original grates have been removed from the ground floor reception rooms, though they remain in the first-floor rooms. Many rooms feature ceiling roses, and the hall includes an open string staircase with moulded tread ends, stick balusters, and a ramped mahogany handrail.
Yealmpton Manor is designated as Grade II due to its competent design as an early 19th-century vicarage, showcasing two principal elevations and a largely intact interior that reflects quality craftsmanship throughout the building.
