Description

Goreus Stone is possibly a memorial stone dating from the 3rd century. It is an unhewn or roughly hewn narrow and flat granite monolith, standing about 5 feet 6 inches to 6 feet above ground. The east face is inscribed with the name 'GOREUS', while the west face features some mortice-like holes. It is believed to commemorate an early British chieftain. Originally, it was located in the churchyard to the north of the church but was moved to its current position immediately west of the church in 1851.
