Description

Retreat Cottage is a small house dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed of coursed sandstone rubble and features a gabled slate roof with a brick end stack. The building has a double-depth plan that is one room wide, standing two storeys tall with a one-window range. The ground floor includes a 19th-century four-panelled beaded door, which is set in a beaded architrave to the left, and 8/8-pane sash windows with moulded architraves and original shutters. The cyma-moulded gutter is supported by lions' mask brackets. Although the interior has not been inspected, it is noted to have plank doors and a boxed quarter-turn stair.
