Description

Holmans Warehouse is a mid-19th century range of warehouses located directly by the river. The building is constructed of stone rubble with red brick window dressings and features a slate roof. It generally stands three storeys high and is nine bays wide, with two large off-centre gables, each covering three bays. The southern gable has a recessed four-storey door rank, while the northern gable has been extended to five storeys and includes a red brick gable at the end of an east-west clerestory. There is also a further four-storey door rank to the north, with the top door located under a dormer that breaks through the eaves. The facade facing The Plains is irregular. A notable feature is a good cast iron weather vane set on the northern roof ridge. Inside, the warehouse has massive timber beams supported by cast iron columns.
