Description

The Old Cider Factory is an early 19th-century range of buildings, with later additions, situated on the riverbank. The construction is primarily stone rubble with slate and corrugated iron roofs. The northern end of the complex projects forward under a large gable. The building is three storeys high. The north facade features two small ground-floor windows and a central doorway flanked by two doors and a hoist arm above. A similar, smaller gable is present to the south, with a door or window on each floor and a hoist arm above; this facade is now clad in corrugated iron.

The oldest section adjoins the south side and is two storeys high. This section has central doors with a small gable over a hoist arm, flanked by a window with red brick dressings on each floor, except the northern ground floor. To the south of this is a two-storey, two-bay section with a double-span hipped roof, with gable ends facing the river; each gable has one door on each floor (except the southern ground floor).

The facade facing The Plains has a northern part with two gables between which a square chimney foot splayed down to the eaves. The gables have wide eaves with curved brackets. A stuccoed three-storey, four-bay section is to the south, with windows featuring glazing bars and loading doors. An external brick staircase is against the south wall. The southernmost recessed section is two storeys high and three bays wide, featuring a centre segmental brick arch over double doors, similar arches to windows and the northern first-floor door, and a lintel over the southern ground-floor door.
