Description
Whitlocksworthy Farmhouse is a farmhouse that likely originated in the 18th century and was remodeled in the early 19th century. It features slate rubble walls and a gable-ended slate roof. The right gable has a stone rubble stack that tapers at the top with drip courses, while the front left corner has a brick stack on a rendered rubble base, along with two additional brick stacks on the rear wing.
The farmhouse has an L-shaped plan. The front range is accessed through a wide stair hall, with a larger room to the right and a smaller room to the left. The wing behind the left end contains a large room with a cross passage, a kitchen behind it, and a dairy outshut at the rear of the main range. Most of the internal fittings date from the early 19th century, and even the two-panel doors in the rear part may appear old-fashioned due to being in the service wing. However, the asymmetrical room layout and the front of the house suggest an earlier date.
The exterior is two storeys high with an asymmetrical three-window front, where the windows are primarily located to the right. On the ground floor to the right, there are two early 20th-century four-pane sash windows, while the rest are 19th-century horned 16-pane sashes. There is a 20th-century part-glazed door with a rectangular fanlight to the right of center. The long wing extending behind the left end has a five-window front with similar 16-pane sashes and a two-light 20th-century casement to the left of center on the ground floor. To the right of this is a two-panel door of 18th-century type, which may also be early 19th century. At the end of this wing, there is a lower outbuilding with stone steps leading to a first-floor doorway.
Inside, the front part of the house features early 19th-century six-panel doors and a staircase with square newels, turned balusters, and a closed string. The rear part contains several two-panel doors of 18th-century type.
