Description

The Shapter headstone, dated 1788, is located approximately 7 metres west of the tower of the former Church of St Mary in Dartington. This slate headstone features a shouldered segmented head and is bordered with an incised design. It commemorates Edward Shapter, who died in 1788, and his wife Mary, who passed away in 1782. The inscription includes both upper and lower case lettering with serifs.
