Description
No. 5 Above Town is a house from the early to mid-19th century, constructed from plastered stone rubble and featuring disused stacks with no visible chimneyshafts, topped with a slate roof. The front of the house has two storeys and a half basement, while the rear has three storeys. The front facade is plastered and has two windows, with horned 12-pane sash windows on the upper two floors and 20th-century windows in the half basement. The left-hand doorway is framed with a stucco surround, flat Doric pilasters, and a moulded entablature, leading to a recessed six-panel door where the upper panels are fielded and the bottom pair have vertical mouldings. The roof has plain eaves and is hipped at both ends. The interior has not been inspected but is noted to have original joinery and an open-string stick-baluster stair. The house is included for its group value.
