Description
Cherub Cottage is a house that dates from the 18th century or early 19th century, with possibly an earlier core, and has undergone various modernizations in the 20th century. It is built of stucco on stone rubble and features an end stack with a 19th-century brick chimney shaft and old pots, as well as a rear lateral stack. The roof is slate.
The building has a plan that consists of two rooms wide with a central entrance hall. It stands two storeys high with an attic and has a symmetrical three-window front. The stucco is lightly blocked out to resemble ashlar. The central doorway has a replacement fielded six-panel door beneath a plain overlight and a replacement doorcase, which includes pilasters with a pediment supported on shaped brackets. There are semi-circular bows on each side that have a moulded timber cornice and contain casements with glazing bars. On the first floor, there are horned twelve-pane sash windows. The hipped slate roof features a large flat-roofed dormer added in the 20th century.
Inside, the property has been altered, but retains some original details, including a marble chimneypiece with a good cast-iron grate in the former parlour and a staircase with stick balusters.
