Description

Milestone located on Totnes Road in Dartmouth, dating from the late 18th century to early 19th century. It is an upright block of granite, approximately 750mm high, and has a triangular shape with a flat top. The front features canted sides that are inscribed with both upper and lower case lettering along with Arabic numerals. The eastern side, facing towards Dartmouth, indicates distances to Kingsbridge (12 miles), Modbury (14 miles), and Totnes (11 miles). The western side, facing away from Dartmouth, shows the distance to Dartmouth as 2 miles.
