Description
A pair of houses, likely dating to the mid-17th century with additions probably from the 18th century and altered in the 20th century. The walls are rendered rubble, possibly incorporating some cob. The roof is hipped and thatched, with rendered rubble stacks featuring brick shafts at each end and a similar rear lateral stack.
Coombe Cottage originally comprised three rooms, possibly with a former passage. 20th-century alterations include a front passage and stairhall connecting the two end rooms. South View, added in the 18th century, has a two-room plan.
The asymmetrical front has a 4:2 window arrangement, with 20th-century 1, 2, and 3-light casement windows. A 20th-century bay window is on the ground floor of Coombe Cottage’s left-hand room, alongside a 20th-century stable-style door and a conservatory. South View has a large, glazed 20th-century porch.
The interior of Coombe Cottage’s left-hand room features a beamed ceiling with stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops and chamfered joists bearing carpenter's marks. The fireplaces have probably been altered and include rough wooden lintels. The roof timbers are of a rough A-frame design.
