Description
The garden walls immediately south, south west, and west of Molescombe House are likely from the 17th century. They are constructed of dressed slate rubble and feature tall walls with weathered battlements on three sides of a small garden at the southern end of Molescombe House. There is a small round-arch doorway on the south west side, which has a rebated inside far door and a hoodmould. On the east side, there is a larger gateway that includes a later hipped slate canopy and 20th-century wrought-iron gates. Outside this gateway, there is a small stone mounting block against the wall. The wall continues in front of the house to the west, where it serves as a low retaining wall for the garden and has slate capping. This section of the wall is curved in plan and ramps up on the right to connect with an earlier wall to the south west of the house. Recently, steps have been formed at the center of the retaining wall.
