Description
No. 44 Boutport Street is a shop with accommodation above, likely built in the late 18th century. The building is plastered, with the roof and stack hidden behind a parapet and features a cast-iron gutter. It has a very small plan consisting of two narrow rooms, one located behind the other, with a staircase against the left-hand wall. The ground-floor rooms have been combined for shop use.
The building stands three storeys tall and has a single-window range. The gutter creates the appearance of a moulded cornice, and there is an eaves board, likely made of timber, at the top. The ground floor includes a canted plate-glass shop window that is recessed behind the first-floor level, with a moulded cornice above and below the fascia. A pilaster with chamfered rustication is located at the left end, and there is a 20th-century central shop door. The first- and second-floor windows feature moulded architraves but have been reglazed with 20th-century plate glass top-hung casements.
Inside, any historic features on the ground floor have been concealed due to modern shop use, while the upper floors are said to be plain.
