Description

This is a shop with living accommodation above, dating to approximately 1790, as indicated by a carving on a keyblock. Later alterations have been made, including a shopfront from the 20th century. The building is constructed of painted Flemish bond brick, with the right end partly slate-hung, and possibly stands on a timber frame, partially covered in sheeting. It has a gabled slate roof and a right-end stack with a brick shaft and terracotta chimney pot. A shopfront from the 1960s replaced the original on the ground floor. The first floor has two-pane sash windows with horns, margin panes, and keyblocks. One keyblock is inscribed “1790,” and the other is difficult to decipher but may include initials. The ground-floor interior has been gutted for shop use and the original crosswalls have been removed, but potentially interesting features may remain on the upper floors.
