Description

This is an early 19th-century house, now used as offices, located on Boutport Street, Barnstaple. The house is constructed of red brick with a slate roof. Each gable end has a brick chimney, and a further brick chimney is situated on the left gable wall at the rear.

The building is three storeys high and has a symmetrical five-window facade. A central doorway on the ground floor features a wooden doorcase with flanking panelled pilasters supporting an entablature. The doorcase has panelled reveals, with the lower right panel shaped to accommodate a cast-iron shoescraper. The door is five-panelled with the upper four panels glazed, and it retains its original door knocker. The windows have slightly curved, gauged arches and are sash windows (with horns) set within recessed box frames. A wooden eaves cornice runs along the top of the building.

A partial inspection of the interior revealed panelled shutters to the ground- and first-floor front windows. The front rooms on the ground floor feature moulded cornices.
