Description

No. 12 Boutport Street is a mid-19th century house, now used as offices. The building has solid rendered walls, likely of stone or brick, and a slate roof. Brick chimneys are present on the left gable end, featuring two chimney-pots with pockets; a second chimney is at the rear of the right gable wall, with two more chimney-pots (one spoked) just visible. A third rendered chimney is on the left wall of the rear wing.

The house is arranged with a double-fronted, double-depth plan, with a rear wing on the left. The central entrance passage leads to a staircase located in the rear left-hand section of the front range.

It is a symmetrical three-window range, with canted bays rising through both storeys at the outer windows. These bays contain plain sash windows with horns. A six-panelled door is centrally positioned on the ground floor, above a flat moulded wooden hood supported by shaped brackets. A bracketed eaves cornice runs around the bays. A tall, round-arched stair window with small-paned glazing and radial bars is located on the left gable wall, which is visible from the street, and there is a small two-paned sash window in the gable itself. The rear wing has a single window, a six-paned sash at the front end of the upper storey.

The house sits within a group that includes Nos. 11 and 13 Boutport Street.
