Description
This is a bank barn with an attached horse-engine house and a farm entrance gateway, located about 10 metres north-west of Yellaton Farmhouse. The bank barn dates from the early 19th century and was partially converted into a dwelling in the late 20th century. The horse-engine house was built in the mid-19th century, while the entrance gateway dates from the late 19th century. The structure is made of stone rubble and features gable end slate roofs, with an apsidal roof on the horse-engine house. The entrance gateway has brick dressings.
The barn has a rectangular plan and is built into a bank, allowing first floor access at the rear and shippons at the lower ground level in the front. The horse-engine house is almost circular in shape and is unusually attached to the left gable end of the bank barn instead of the rear. The entrance gateway, which extends at right angles from the front left end of the barn, has a loft above it. The barn includes a 2-light window that has been inserted into a partially blocked first floor winnowing door at the centre, with a 3-light casement window to the right. There are four plank doors leading to the shippons below, with the left-hand door enclosed by the entrance gateway, which features segmental brick arches and a plank door to the loft above.
