Description

The building is a bank barn and horse engine house located to the northwest of Church Town Farmhouse, dating from the late 18th century, with the lower part of the barn on the north possibly being older. It was repaired in the mid-19th century. The structure features a random stone base with unplastered upper walls made of cob, and there are 19th-century brick repairs on the southeast gable. The barn has a slate roof that was re-roofed in 1862, with scratches in the plaster behind the slates.

On the northeast side of the barn is a round apsidal horse engine house, which has a small window opening on the southeast and an entrance on the north side. Although the central post and machinery have been removed, the roof timbers remain. There is a small internal window that connects to the barn's threshing floor.

The barn is two stories tall, but it appears as a single storey on the southwest side due to the rising ground. It has a series of random openings with later glazing. The ground floor entrance is located in the mid-northeast elevation, and there is a flight of external stairs leading to the first floor at the junction with the horse engine house on the north. Opposite this entrance is a double-doored entrance on the southwest side, and there is an entrance to the first floor at the northwest end. The ground floor of the barn is used for storage, while the first floor contains a threshing floor at the southeast end and a storage area at the northwest end, separated by a boarded partition with ox yokes used as joists for the first floor. This barn is included for its group value with the farmhouse.
