Description

The Baker gravestone, located approximately 3 metres east of the chancel of the Church of St Hieritha in Chittlehampton, dates from 1830. This Grade II listed twin headstone is made of slate and features a straight-headed design. It has twin incised arches with a verse around the top that reads, "Be ye therefore ready for in such an hour as ye think not the son of man cometh." The left side of the gravestone is inscribed with the name of Margaret Baker, who died in 1830, while the right side commemorates John Baker, who died in 1838.
