Description
The lych gate south of the Church of St Hieritha was built in 1881. It features ashlar walls with timber framing above and a gabled tiled roof topped with crested ridge tiles. A timber cross is positioned at the center of the ridge, and each gablet has pierced quatrefoils. The side walls are made of ashlar, with open traceried timberwork above, consisting of six lights on each side. The front and rear have 4-centred arches with carved foliate spandrels; the front arch includes the inscription "Enter His Gates with Thanksgiving," while the rear arch has the inscription "Let thy Servant Depart in Peace." The timber gates have open-work panels below the headrail. A small plaque on the left-hand wall commemorates John Baring Short of Hudscott, who died in 1880.
