Description
A mirrored pair of houses dating from the early 19th century. They are constructed with solid rendered walls and have a slate roof, with a red brick chimney positioned centrally on the ridge. The houses are three storeys high, each with a two-window range and doorways at the outer ends. Number 88 features round-arched doorways with recessed inner arches supported by moulded corbels; Number 89 has pilasters instead. Number 88 has a six-panelled door with a two-paned fanlight, while Number 89 has a half-glazed inner door behind a groin-vaulted ceiling. The ground-floor windows are segmental-headed with six-paned sashes, with the lower sash at Number 89 now lacking glazing bars. A raised band runs above the ground storey. The second-floor windows of Number 88 have six-paned upper sashes and plain wood casements below, which open onto balconies with interlacing Gothic arches and quatrefoils. The third-floor windows have sashes with a three-over-six pane configuration. Number 89 has plain sashes with margin panes in both upper storeys. Giant pilaster strips rise through the second and third storeys at either end of the pair. A small moulded eaves cornice tops the building. The interior has not been inspected. A high, ramped wall runs along the right-hand side of the front garden and adjoins the house. A shoescraper with an anthemion pattern is located to the left of the front garden at Number 88.
