Description

Snydles Barn is an early 19th-century field linhay located in Chittlehamholt. It is constructed of stone rubble, with the upper storey rendered in cob, and features a hipped thatch roof. The barn has a rectangular plan and is built into a bank by the roadside. The ground floor includes a 7-bay cattle shelter with an arcaded front, showcasing round arches supported by large, heavily battered rectangular stone rubble piers with rough stone voussoirs. There is a 4-paned window in the loft and three plank loft doors at the rear. This barn is a rare surviving example of a thatched field barn, notable for its impressive arcaded cattle shelter.
