Description

Newport Terrace is a row of four houses built in the early 19th century, originally part of a larger, more consistent terrace that also included numbers 14 and 15 on Newport Road. The houses have rendered frontages and slated roofs, with chimneys on the left side walls. Numbers 9 to 11 are each two windows wide, while number 12 has three windows. Numbers 9 to 11 have round-arched doorways on the left side; the doors are six-panelled with a small central panel. Numbers 10 and 11 have door knockers, and the top two panels of the door at number 9 are glazed. Number 12 has a central doorway with attached Doric columns and an entablature, panelled reveals, and a door similar to the others, with the top two panels now glazed. Most windows are barred sashes; numbers 9 to 11 have 6 over 6 panes, while number 12 has 8 over 8 panes. The ground-floor windows at numbers 10 and 11 are exceptions, featuring late 19th-century canted bays with bracketed cornices and plain sashes. Raised bands divide the storeys at all houses except number 10. Stepped eaves-boards are present on all but number 12, which is flanked by panelled pilasters. The interiors have not been inspected.
