Description

This is a 19th-century limekiln located approximately 100 metres north of Park Lane in Combe Martin. The structure is made of unrendered stone rubble and is built into a bank, featuring a circular design with steps at the rear leading up to a circular well. It has a low opening at the front with a flat timber lintel and a low parapet surrounding the well, which is heavily encrusted with lime. Combe Martin is noted for having the highest concentration of kilns in North Devon, positioned close to the limestone quarries in a line that runs parallel to and southwest of the village street.
