Description
The Brayley gravestone, located approximately 8 metres east of the south-east corner of the chancel of the Church of St Hieritha, is a twin headstone dating from 1834, created by Watts. It is made of slate and features a straight-headed design. The gravestone has incised twin arches supported by Ionic pilasters, with an inscription dedicated to John Brayley, a malster who died in 1834. Below the inscription is a verse that reads: "At two o'clock I little thought When I did leave my house The Lord would strike me down with his rod and take me off so soon." The right-hand arch of the gravestone is blank.
