Description
Hearts of Oak Public House is an early 19th-century public house located on Boutport Street in Barnstaple. The building features solid rendered walls and a hipped, slated roof, with a red brick chimney on the side wall facing Maiden Street. It stands three storeys tall, with a one-window range to Boutport Street, a rounded corner with one window, and five windows facing Maiden Street. The ground storey on Boutport Street and the corner has been rebuilt in mid to late 20th-century tiles. The upper-storey windows are fitted with barred sashes: the second storey on Boutport Street has 6 over 9 panes, with 3 over 6 panes above; the second-storey corner has 8 over 12 panes, with 4 over 8 panes above. There is a boxed, moulded eaves cornice that continues around two bays of the Maiden Street front, which has three windows with small-paned sashes in each of the upper storeys. The building is situated at an important junction of Boutport Street and High Street. The interior has not been inspected.
