Description

This early 19th-century house with a shop, now used as offices, is located on Boutport Street in Barnstaple. The shop front was likely added or altered in the mid to late 19th century. The front of the building is rendered and may originally have been timber-framed, with a corrugated asbestos roof. A portion of the second roof gable is visible above the ridge. The house is three storeys high and has a three-window front. The ground floor is almost entirely occupied by a shop front featuring panelled end-pilasters and a bowed entablature. A central door is flanked by canted display windows, with a further house door to the right. Upper-storey windows have moulded architraves and barred sashes, each with six panes, except for the two outer second-storey windows. These windows are of three lights with two-paned side sashes, and the window on the right also has four-paned centre sashes. A boxed eaves cornice runs along the top of the building. The interior has not been inspected.
