Description

KINGS NYMPTON SS 61 NE 3/134 Smitha Farmhouse - II

Farmhouse. C17, altered in C19 and early C20. Roughcast rendered stone rubble and cob. Corrugated asbestos roof. Brick shaft to rear lateral hall stack and brick stack at right end. Plan: hall and inner room to right of former through-passage modified by blocking up of front doorway and axially partitioned to create small front dairy and stairhall at rear. Second staircase running from back to front between hall and inner room. Lower end formerly comprised lofted outbuilding but reduced to single storey and front wall rebuilt in C20. At right angles to rear of main range is a lofted stable range, the front portion of which has been taken in to form part of dwelling. Exterior: 2 storeys. 3 window range. C20 fenestration, 2- and 3-light casements. Buttress at left end. Pigeon holes to rear left end. Interior: entirely altered in C19 and early C20. Roof not accessible but feet of straight principals visible.
